Synopsis

The film’s story develops as the hidden messages of a mysterious painting are explored.

The painting in question is the notorious work by Hans Holbein, “The Ambassadors”, the unique aesthetic of which continually cuts into the flesh of a reality depicted as otherwise harmonious, complete and faultless. This is exemplified by the anamorphic skull seen floating in the foreground that creates the paradoxical sensation of something visible and yet invisible. This visual sensation also calls the viewer’s attention to the fact that (in the universe of the Holbein painting) complex and intertwined meanings and messages sit within and behind seemingly simple depictions in similar fashion to the manner in which the story of the film’s figures interlink with fractions of time and other intricate elements 500 years after the painting’s initial naissance.
